Puran Poli is a traditional sweet flat-bread which is made in India in the States of Goa and Maharashtra. It is usually served on auspicious occasions as dessert and during festivals like Holi and Padwa.
The stuffing is called as ‘Puran’ and the outer layer is called as ‘Poli’. Today being the festival of colors-Holi, I made Puran Poli for the first time. They turned out very good and my husband and kiddo both enjoyed them a lot.
Usually Puran Poli ‘s are made with All purpose flour or Maida. However, the puran poli which I made use a mix of Maida and whole wheat flour, so are healthier. They can be served for Breakfast or as a snack. Since my daughter loves them , I give them to her in her tiffin box too.
I have also made Sweet Potato Polis once which are very similar to Puran poli but with a sweet potato filling instead of chana dal filling. Check it out if it interests you.
