Banana appam or Banana paniyaram are small crispy round balls made with banana and semolina. It serves as a good breakfast or snack item. Being very healthy, it can be a great tiffin box option for kids. Also, appe are very easy to eat as finger food for toddlers. So if you have a toddler for whom you are looking for finger food recipes, banana appam is a must try.
Banana Appam is very easy to make and requires only 3 main ingredients. It is my favorite recipe to make for breakfast or my daughter’s tiffin box when I have not planned anything else in advance.
Here is the step by step banana appam recipe with pictures:
Serves: 3
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Banana: 3 big bananas
Sugar: 2 tbsp
Semolina: 1 and 1/4 cup
Bicarbonate of Soda: 1/4 tsp
Curd: 3 tbsp
Cashew Nuts: 1/4 cup broken into small pieces(optional)
Raisins: 10-12 (optional)
Salt: to taste
Ghee: for frying
Method of Preparation:
- Mash the bananas. You will get around 1 and 1/2 cups of mashed bananas.
- Add sugar, semolina, curd, cashew nuts, raisins, salt and bicarbonate of soda and mix well. You can adjust the amount of sugar added as per the sweetness of the bananas.
- Heat the appe pan. Add a few drops of ghee in each slot of the pan.
- Put banana batter in each slot to make it 3/4 full.
- Let cook till golden brown on one side. Turn over and let cook on other side too.
