Butter Garlic Naan is an oven-baked flatbread infused with garlic and brushed with butter giving it an awesome flavor. It tastes best with gravies (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian).
I served it last weekend with Butter Chicken and it was an awesome meal. I will be posting that recipe soon.
I have also tried making Butter Garlic Naan with whole wheat flour as a healthy alternative to the maida ones. If you want to check out that recipe, you can find it here: whole wheat butter garlic naan
Here is the step by step Butter Garlic Naan recipe with pictures:
Makes: 7 Naans
Preparation Time: 2-3 hours
Cooking Time: 15 mins
Ingredients:
Active dry yeast: 1.5 tsp
Sugar: 2 tsp
Maida: 3 cups
Warm water: 180 ml
Garlic Paste: 2 tsp
Curd: 1/4cup
Butter: 2 tbsp
Garlic: 6 tbsp finely chopped
Coriander: 4 tbsp finely chopped
Sesame seeds: 3 tbsp
Salt: 1.5 tsp
Butter: for making Naans
Method of Preparation:
- Add sugar and yeast to the warm water and let it sit for 10-15 minutes till it becomes frothy.
- Add all purpose flour, garlic paste, curd, salt and butter. Mix well and knead to form a smooth dough.
- Cover with moist cloth for around 2-3 hours. The dough will double up.
- Divide the dough into 7 balls. Cover with moist cloth again and keep aside for 10-15 minutes.
- In a plate, mix together the chopped garlic, sesame seeds and chopped coriander.
- Take a ball of dough and roll into a disk of 6 inches diameter. Place this disk in the plate with garlic-coriander-sesame seeds and press( I like the naans with a lot of these toppings.)
- Pre-heat the oven to the highest temperature on the oven. Grease a flat baking tray and place the naan on the tray.
- Smear with butter and let cook on both sides for around 2-3 minutes. On turning, smear with butter on other side too. Repeat with other naans.
Baking bread is very addictive. Since the first time I made breads, there was no looking back. Some of my favorite bread recipes are: Pao, Stuffed Braided bread, Potato stuffed buns etc.
