Moon Dal Chilla

Moong Dal Chilla are savory pancakes made with yellow moong dal, spices, vegetables and herbs. They are healthy and easy to make and serve as a perfect snack or breakfast option.
Ingredients
  • Moong Dal: 1 cup
  • Turmeric Powder: ¼ tsp
  • Chili Powder: ¼ tsp
  • Cumin Powder: ½ tsp
  • Onion: 1 medium finely chopped
  • Green Chilies: 2 finely chopped
  • Coriander: a handful finely chopped
  • Ginger: 1 inch grated
  • Salt: 1 tsp
Instructions
  1. Wash the moong dal a couple of times. Soak in sufficient water for 3-4 hours.
  2. Drain the water and grind the moong dal to a smooth batter using around ¼ cup water.
  3. Add the turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder and salt and mix well.
  4. Add the onions, chilies, coriander and ginger and mix well. Keep it aside for 10-15 minutes.
  5. If the batter is too thick, you can add 1-2 tbsp water, but do not make it too watery as it will be difficult to make the chillas.
  6. Heat 1 tsp oil on a pan and pour a ladleful of the batter on the pan. Starting from the center, spread in a circular motion to make it as thin as you can.
  7. Keep covered and cook till golden brown on one side. Flip over and let cook on the other side too.
