Here is a quick and easy eggless apple pie recipe. A delicious dessert which can be eaten plain or with a scoop of ice-cream. Healthy too, with whole wheat flour crust.
I have been wanting to try out apple pie for a very long time. Finally tried it yesterday. Perfectly healthy with a whole wheat flour crust and delicious apple cinnamon filling, this eggless apple pie melted our hearts away. Plus, it looks so good. This eggless apple pie is a perfect dessert to serve when guests come over. We all loved it, and I am sure it would figure in our menu quite often.
I made two eggless apple pies, one with a normal crust and one with a lattice pie crust. Unfortunately before I could take pics of the normal crust apple pie, it got over. So in this post, I have pictures of only the lattice crust apple pie.

Makes: 1 eggless apple pie
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:
To make crust for Eggless Apple Pie
Whole Wheat Flour: 1 and half cup
Cinnamon Powder: 1/4 tsp
Brown Sugar: 2 tbsp (Optional)
Salt: 1/4 tsp
Cold Unsalted Butter: 75 gm
Cold Water: 1/2 cup
To make filling for Eggless Apple Pie
Apples: 2
Cinnamon Powder: 1/2 – 1 tsp
Brown Sugar: 2 tbsp
Whole Wheat Flour: 2 tbsp
Final Steps
Milk: As required
Brown Sugar: As required
Cinnamon Powder: As required
Method of Preparation:
To make crust for eggless apple pie
- Pre heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a pie pan with butter. I use a pie pan with 20 cm diameter.
- Sieve the whole wheat flour. Add to it the cinnamon powder, salt and brown sugar.
- Add chopped cold butter to the whole wheat flour and mix well with fingertips so that they resemble bread crumbs.
- Add cold water to the flour and gather together all the contents to form a dough. Do not knead. I added a little less than 1/2 cup water here.
- Keep covered with wet cloth to avoid drying out.
To make filling for eggless apple pie
- Peel, core and thinly slice the apples.
- Add to the apples, cinnamon powder, brown sugar and whole wheat flour and mix well.
Final Steps
- Divide the dough into two parts.
- Dust a rolling board with flour. Take one part on the rolling board and flatten with palm.
- Roll it out into a disc of 1/4 inch thickness.
- Place this rolled pie crust on the greased pie pan and press gently, lining it with the pan. You can cut off any extra dough.
- Put the apple pieces evenly on the bottom pie crust.
- Take the other portion of the dough and repeat the process again to make another disc.
The top crust of the pie can be made into two ways. I have noted down both below: - Cover the pan with this second pie crust and fold the edges of the top crust over and under the bottom crust OR Cut strips of the rolled out pie crust and create lattice pie crust. In this recipe I have made a lattice pie crust. However, I have also made a regular crust and can say that there is no difference in taste.
- If you are making a normal pie crust, you need to make small cuts through the top pie crust with a knife so as to allow steam to pass while baking.
- Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon powder over it.
- Bake it for 45 minutes. The crust will become golden and crisp. Note that the time required for baking will vary based on the oven used.
