Garam Masala is a blend of whole spices which have been roasted and ground into a fine powder. It is used extensively in many Indian dishes.
I got this recipe of Garam Masala from my mom. It is very easy to make and if stored properly in an air tight container can be used for a long time. And yes, it is definitely better than the store bought packets of Garam Masala.
Here is the step by step recipe for Garam Masala:
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Coriander Seeds: 1 cup
Cloves: 1 tbsp
Peppercorns: 1 tbsp
Cinnamon: 1 tbsp
Fennel Seeds: 1/8 cup
Method of Preparation:

Heat 1/4 tsp of oil in a pan. Add cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon and stir till they turn slightly brown.
- Add fennel seeds and stir fry till slightly brown. Take it aside.
- Add coriander seeds and stir fry till brown.
- Let all the spices cool down and then grind to a fine powder. Store in air tight container.
