Toi is the Goan dal preparation without onion and garlic. It is usually eaten with rice and is commonly made during Festive occasions like Ganesh Chaturthi where onion and garlic is not eaten.
Goan Dal is very easy to make and is ready within minutes. Also, it uses very simple ingredients easily available in the kitchen.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Toor Dal: 1/4 cup
Tomato: 1 small chopped
Green Chilies: 2 small slit vertically
Ginger Paste: 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida (Hing): A pinch
Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp
Curry Leaves (kadipatta): 4-5
Dry Red Chilly: 1 small
Salt: to taste
Method of Preparation:
- Soak the toor dal in sufficient water for around ½ hour and cook it in a pressure cooker along with tomato (3-4 whistles)
- Add ginger paste, green chlilies and salt to the dal.
- Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds and let splutter. Add hing, kadipatta and dry red chilly and stir fry briefly. Add the entire contents to the dal.
- Add coriander and mix well.
