Goan Prawn Curry is a coconut based Prawns curry which is eaten with rice in Goa. A typical Goan meal generally consists of Rice (Xit), Fish or Prawns Curry, Solkadi served with accompaniments like kismoor, fried fish and some sabzi.
Here I present to you the famous Goan Prawn Curry recipe with pictures:
Serves: 2-3
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Scraped coconut: 1 cup
Peppercorn: 4-5
Coriander seeds: 1/4 tsp
Tamarind: A marble sized ball
Onion: 1 small finely chopped
Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
Dry red chilies: 4 small
Chili Powder: 1 tsp
Salt: to taste
Prawns: 1 cup small
Radish: 1 cut into small pieces
Method of Preparation:
- Apply 1 tsp Chilli powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt to the prawns and keep aside.
- Grind together the scrapped coconut, peppercorn, coriander seeds, dry red chilies and tamarind with around 3/4-1 cup water to form smooth paste.
- Heat around 3/4 cup of water in a pan and add onion and radish pieces to it. Close lid and let cook.
- Once radish is cooked, add prawns to it. Close lid and let simmer till prawns are cooked.
- Add the ground mixture (step 2), 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt and around 1 cup water. Close lid and let simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Note: You can add more water if the curry seems too thick. You can add more chili powder if you like the curry spicier
