We had posted another recipe for Mackerel Curry (Mackerel Uddamethi) earlier. While Mackerel Uddamethi is famous for the unique taste it derives from the urad dal and fenugreek seeds used in it, this particular curry also has its own unique taste derived from the use of Sichuan pepper (Also called as Tefla in konkani).
Here is the step by step recipe for Mackerel Curry with pictures:
Serves: 3-4
Preparation Time:Â 30 minutes
Cooking Time:Â 20 minutes
Ingredients:
Scrapped Coconut: 2 cups
Chili Powder: 3 tsp
Turmeric Powder: 2 tsp
Tamarind: 1 tbsp
Green Chilies: 2 slit vertically
Sichuan Pepper (Tefla): 1 tbsp
Kokum (Solan): 4
Mackerel: 10 pieces
Salt: to taste
Method of Preparation:
- Apply 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp turmeric powder and salt to the fish and keep aside.
- Grind together the coconut, 2 tsp chili powder and tamarind into a smooth paste.
- In a pan, put the ground coconut paste, green chilies, lightly crushed sichuan pepper, kokum, 1 tsp turmeric powder, salt and mackerel pieces.
- Close lid and bring to boil.
