Rice Soup is one of the most ideal first foods for babies and is very easy to make. It is very light on the tummy and nutritious too. For both my kids, I have started with rice soup or chawal ka pani as the first food once they turned 6 months old.
My younger one just turned 6 months old and I have started introducing her to solids. Hence I thought this is the ideal time for me to start posting baby/infant recipes on the blog based on my experience. I will also try to post the food chart which I follow for her month wise, so that it helps new moms in deciding what foods to introduce and how to prepare it.

Here is the step by step recipe for Rice Soup with pictures:
Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
Rice: 1 tbsp
Water: As required
Method of Preparation:
- Wash the rice under running water. Add 1 cup of water and let soak for 5 minutes.
- Place on medium heat and let cook till rice gets overcooked. Add more water at this stage if required.
- Alternatively, you can pressure cook the rice water mixture till the rice gets very soft (overcooked). I usually cook for 7-8 whistles.
- Mash the rice a bit and then strain through a strainer. The rice soup is ready to be fed to your baby.
Note: This is the method I used for my baby who just turned 6 months old. As your baby grows, you can increase the rice quantity. You can also start feeding mashed rice along with the water as the baby grows.
It is important to follow the 3 day rule for introducing any new foods. i.e when starting any new food, continue feeding the same food for 3 days to check for any allergic reactions. Only on the 4th day, you can introduce new food item.
