Sweet Pumpkin Puri or Gharge is a deep fried Maharashtrian snack. It makes use of pumpkin and jaggery to make a sweet puri which is sure to be loved by all. It is very easy to make and kids are sure to like it.
My mother used to make these pumpkin puris for me when I was small. Recently, when she was in Bahrain with us, I asked her to teach me how to make them. I realized that sweet pumpkin puris are very easy to make and I am sure to make them regularly now. It serves as a great tea time snack and tiffin box option too.
Here is the step by step recipe for Pumpkin puri with pictures:
Serves: 3-4
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
Pumpkin (Boiled and Mashed): 1 cup
Jaggery: 1/2 cup
Sesame Seeds: 1 tsp
Whole wheat flour: 1.5 cups
Salt: to taste
Oil: to deep fry
Method of Preparation:
- Mix together all the ingredients and make dough
- Make small balls. Take a ball and roll it out into a small circle.
- Heat oil in a kadai. Deep fry the puri till golden brown
